Staffie donor Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 January 2017 14:36

Over the last few years Staffies have earned themselves an unfortunate reputation (resulting in high numbers in rescue centres) so it's lovely to hear about a positive story for a change.  Five year old Staffordshire cross Romeo has been awarded the Blue Cross Medal in recognition of his blood donations.  Romeo has been in the Royal Veterinary College's blood donor programme for nearly three years, making his 10th donation just recently.  Each time he gives the same amount as a human - just under a pint - but instead of a cup of tea, in return receives a biscuit or two! Amongst the many dogs Romeo's generosity has helped are a springer spaniel with a heart defect and a beagle with a ruptured spleen. If you would like to volunteer your dog as a blood donor, visit www.rvc.ac.uk
