Many parts of the country have seen a rise in dog thefts; certainly here in Suffolk there has been a sizeable increase. Since the beginning of 2013 5,288 dogs have been reported stolen; toy breeds such as pugs and miniature French bulldogs have proved especially popular thanks to a shortage of puppies.  Gun dog theft has also increased, possibly because many are kept outside in kennels.  Sadly, it seems that the police in many parts of the country have not shown as much interest as they might - equating the loss of a beloved dog with the loss of a mobile phone.
