Attacks on guide dogs Print E-mail

The charity Guide Dogs says that attacks on their dogs have more than tripled in the last five years.  On average 11 guide dogs were mauled each month last year costing the charity £650,000; 43% of the dogs were hurt in the incidents and the ability of two out of five was affected afterwards.  To say nothing of the physical and emotional effects on the owner: one in seven attacks resulted in physical injuries and the majority felt anxious and upset.  This is appalling and totally unnecessary if owners of dogs known to be aggressive kept them on the lead and/or muzzled.  But dog on dog aggression is increasing overall which is something we all need to be concerned about...
