Fat treats Print E-mail

Many dog owners think they are being responsible when they give their dog doggy treats - as opposed to scraps from human meals.  But some dog treats contain more calories than a Big Mac burger!  The recommended daily calorie intake for humans is far higher than that for dogs: for example, an adult Labrador needs just over 1,000 calories a day.  But a Bonio, one of the most popular treats on the market, contains 78 which is 7% of its daily allowance.  This is not to demonise Bonios; many other dog treats are also high in calories and since calorie information is rarely shown on the packet it is difficult for owners to control the food their dog eats.  Perhaps the answer is to make your own treats?
