Most owners know that dogs are good for our psychological health. But now recent American research suggest that pet dogs may protect against glaucoma, the second biggest cause of blindness. The scientists are not 100% sure why this should be - possibly compounds in the dog's skin proecting against damage to the optic nerve, or germs brought in from the outdoors that help boost the immune system. But it seems that cats increase the risk of glaucoma....
